Low Sugar Blueberry Smoothie

Bananas, mangoes and strawberries are some of the most classic smoothie ingredients. And while the three fruits are full of health benefits, they’re also high glycemic–meaning they are high in natural sugar, and might not be the best choice for someone dealing with diabetes or any hormone imbalances.

So the base of this smoothie, rather than being fruit, is a vegetable. I started with some zucchini that I steamed and cooled in the fridge, then added blueberries, which are low sugar and super high in antioxidants.

To give it an extra health boost, I added coconut butter and coconut milk, which are nutrient dense and full of healthy fats to keep you full and energized all day long. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day so far!

  • ½ cup zucchini, steamed then cooled
  • ¾ cup frozen blueberries
  • 3-4 tablespoons coconut butter
  • ¾ cup coconut milk


Add all the ingredients in the blender and mix on high for 40 seconds, until the mixture is smooth and has no more lumps.

Pour into a glass and serve. I topped mine with my honey almond granola (recipe on my Instagram @sugarandsitups) and some cacao nibs.
